World Refugee Day: Jobs for Ukraine helps build a safer future for Ukrainian refugees in Romania

Bucharest, 20 June 2025 – Today, on World Refugee Day, we join the international community in honouring the courage and resilience of the millions of people forcibly displaced due to conflict or persecution. It is a moment of reflection and solidarity, and an opportunity to acknowledge the tangible support offered through initiatives that truly make a difference.

In Romania, the Jobs for Ukraine platform, launched by the Project Voyager Association, has become a vital pillar of support for Ukrainian refugees seeking employment. Since its launch, the project has supported over 20,000 individuals in integrating into the Romanian labour market through job opportunities with more than 2,700 employers across various sectors, over 2,400 career counselling sessions, and 110 professional training courses.

Jobs for Ukraine offers not only job opportunities but also personalised support, professional guidance, and the assurance that socio-economic integration in a new country is indeed possible.

“Three months ago, I moved to Romania, to Brașov. Not knowing the language, it was very hard to adapt and find a job. But I reached out to a specialist, Olga (Employment Integration Specialist at Jobs for Ukraine), who helped me very quickly. She suggested I try a completely new field. I’ve been working with a kind, welcoming team for a month now. I’m grateful and I highly recommend this service to anyone who needs help finding a job or writing a CV”, – Olena, beneficiary supported by Jobs for Ukraine

To mark World Refugee Day, on 19 May 2025, Jobs for Ukraine organised, in partnership with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Romania Office, a workshop titled “Build Your Career with AI: Tools and Support for Refugees”. Held at the RomExpo Community Center in Bucharest, the event provided Ukrainian participants with access to career counselling, digital training, and practical workshops on using AI in the job search process.

“World Refugee Day is not a day anyone wishes to observe for themselves. It speaks of loss, separation, and forced new beginnings. I’ve never experienced the pain of displacement and can never truly understand what it feels like to be forced to leave everything behind. I carry deep compassion and respect for all who go through this. I believe that each of us can help rebuild a sense of safety by offering real, human support. The Jobs for Ukraine platform and the team behind the Project Voyager Association aim to restore dignity and stability, starting with access to meaningful employment. This work wouldn’t be possible without a dedicated, empathetic, and united team, the Jobs for Ukraine team. Our efforts would not have the same depth or impact without the exceptional women on our team who embody the strength and resilience of the refugee community and have taught us what it truly means to contribute with empathy and responsibility to rebuilding a sense of safety”, said Ioana Buzzi, Executive Director of the Project Voyager Association.

We are deeply grateful to our trusted partners, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), for their unwavering support and invaluable collaboration that make these initiatives possible. Thanks to the many projects we’ve developed together, we have been able to provide refugees with the resources, assistance, and confidence needed to rebuild their lives.

On this day, the entire Jobs for Ukraine team reaffirms its commitment to supporting Ukrainian refugees with practical solutions, personalised assistance, and real opportunities to build dignified and stable lives in Romania. We also invite citizens, companies, and organisations to join us in supporting refugees. Every act of understanding, every job offer, and every word of encouragement counts. We believe that, together, we can build a more empathetic, inclusive, and united society.
